TD Bank Data Breach Lawsuit

Well, TD Bank is yet again in another legal fight, and this time, we have another lawsuit filed against them, which is famously known as the TD Bank Data Breach Lawsuit. Yes, it has something to do with the data breach and how customers’ data was exposed, and things like that. So, if you’re hearing about this lawsuit in the mainstream news or headlines recently, then just keep on reading because we’ll give you some important details regarding this case. Here we go.

When Did This All Go Down?

And remember why we said, like TD Bank is in a legal fight “yet again”? Well, that’s just because it wasn’t a one-time thing at all, nah, actually there have been two different times when investigators were checking out the shady things going on with TD Bank. Like, that one time this bank got investigated for an employee who accessed the information of the customers back in August to December 2022. And then, the same thing happened the next year, like between May to October 2023, and some reports say that it could be the same person involved in this. But the thing is, it literally was months ago, but we’re seeing this legal fight in 2025 because TD Bank started telling about the data breach in January 2025.

What Kind of Stuff Got Leaked?

Well, just like so many people are out there saying that the stuff leaked out there only consisted of basic stuff like names and all that. But nah, it was way more serious than that. You see, as per the reports and details that are already out regarding this TD Bank Data Breach Lawsuit, the details that got leaked include names, birth dates, social security numbers, bank stuff, and even bank transactions. And sure enough, the cybercriminals can very well use this information against you, you know, to lure you into some scam or anything like that. We have even seen that this type of data can be sold on sketchy online marketplaces for anyone to buy.

What’s This Lawsuit About Then?

As you can tell, when TD Bank started telling its customers about the data breach, not a lot of them were happy to hear that. And that is precisely when a class action lawsuit was filed against TD Bank, which is this one. Just for a little bit of info here, though, you see, this class action lawsuit was filed by Robert Taylor, who is a TD Bank customer. And yes, this one got filed in February 2025 in Camden, New Jersey’s federal court. Sure enough, the data breach allegations are true, and it is a serious thing, so the lawsuit is demanding at least $5 million. It’s a pattern we’ve seen elsewhere too, like in the Scotus Climate Lawsuit Rejection, where the highest court declined to take up a major case filed by citizens concerned about the government’s actions, leaving them to pursue legal recourse through other avenues.

The $28 Million Government Mess

And if you think that this was just one or two times TD Bank got into trouble, well, the thing is, back in 2024, TD Bank was fined a mind-boggling fine of $28 million by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, or CFPB. Why? Is it a data breach issue once again? Well, not exactly, you see, this fine was mainly due to the fact that TD Bank actually gave some customer information to credit agencies out there, you know like fake accounts and fictitious credit problems.
