Dank Demoss Lawsuit

According to reports, rapper Dank Demoss, who sued Lyft, lost her case. The complaint was brought after she was allegedly turned away by a Lyft driver because of her size. Alleging discrimination and reputational harm, reports suggest she is requesting millions of dollars in damages. Discussions concerning prejudice against plus-size people have been triggered by the case, which has received a lot of social media attention.

Last Friday (March 14), rapper Dajua Blanding, better known to her followers as Dank Demoss, posted a provocative photo shoot on her TikTok, sparking another controversy. The nearly 500-pound Blanding made waves in January when she filed a discrimination lawsuit against Lyft after a driver turned her down because of his car’s capacity. After recording herself saying, “I can fit in this car,” Blanding was told by the driver, “Believe me, you can’t.” That moment sparked national attention not unlike the Durango Racetrack Tail Light Lawsuit, where overlooked design flaws led to safety concerns and public scrutiny of a major brand. Sorry. I am going to postpone. “You won’t be charged,” he said, instructing her to buy a bigger car.

After the incident, which resulted in Lyft supporting Blanding, the rapper took advantage of the attention the issue had given her by posting a series of bikini pictures. Rather than advancing her career as a musician, the pictures had internet users concerned about her health.

Although some hailed the photo shoot as a message of empowerment, others voiced worries about the possible health effects of being that huge. She received a ton of comments on social media, one of which said, “I don’t mean to be cruel, but how can you inhale and feel well at that size? What if you’re that large and have asthma?

This isn’t fantastic, but it’s an interesting demonstration of the human body’s durability,” said another commenter. As in, how could the human body change to look like that and yet work? However, the online debate over the images soon descended into animosity, with criticism giving rise to harsher and more derogatory remarks that targeted the rapper specifically for exposing her body. Her supporters’ encouraging remarks, which praised her for her self-assurance and boldness to take risks, were insufficient to counteract the harsh remarks she was getting.

Blanding was compelled to remove the pictures from her Instagram and TikTok accounts as a result, leaving only a video that documented the stages of the photo session. The remarks on that video also tended to be critical of her weight and brought up her dispute with the Lyft driver.

She received support from many people who thought her case was significant for plus-size people nationwide, despite the criticism directed at her social media presence. Discrimination based on weight is illegal in the jurisdiction of Michigan, wherein the event took place. The legal team representing Blanding has persisted in the litigation, aiming for justice for the larger community of plus-size people who feel excluded as well as for Blanding herself.
