See, recently, the University of Connecticut or UConn for short, is actually tangled in some legal mess regarding a professor who used to teach at this very university. Well, for those who have no idea what we’re talking about well, this is regarding the UConn Professor Sherry Zane Lawsuit, and of course, the professor in question is Sherry Zane. So, Who is Sherry Zane, and What Happened?
See, as we pretty much gave it off that Sherry Zane was a working professor at UConn. At the time she was a professor there, she was actually also the head of the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) department. But, just this year, in February 2025, we saw that she got arrested for something called the “first-degree larceny”, and for those who don’t know what that is, well, it is basically a legal term for stealing. The arrest was made after the university filed a complaint against her that she was using school funds for her personal use, like personal trips and things like that.
Actually, before the arrest, like back in November 2024, the university had put her on leave because they were looking into whatever she was doing. And once they were clear that she was doing something wrong with the funds, they had her arrested.
Why She’s Taking UConn to Court
Well, the thing is, after Sherry got arrested in February, she actually didn’t just sit back; she went ahead to file a lawsuit against UConn and some top university officials. Well, that sounds weird at first and kinda made up thing by her, but if you look at her claims, they sound somewhat believable, and it could very well be that there is something else that is going on with this case.
So, back in March 2025, she filed the lawsuit in a local Connecticut court, but then, the case was moved to a federal court.
As per her claims in this UConn Professor Sherry Zane Lawsuit, she says that the university actually treated her unfairly and illegally. As per the details of this case, we know so far that she has made big allegations against the university, like taking away her money, ruining her reputation, and not following the proper steps before acting against her.
She Says They Stole Her Pay?
Well, as per her claims, the university didn’t even pay her the money that she earned, which is about $80,000, to be exact. She insists that it is the university’s fault that they didn’t investigate properly and went on to the police and defamed her with a report in the press as well.
Right now, Sherry has a legal team backing her up, and they’re actually pointing at a 2018 2018 agreement and a colleague’s letter, which shows that she was following all the university rules and she didn’t do anything wrong. This kind of legal battle over alleged financial mishandling has also been seen at the federal level, such as in the Trump Foreign Aid Nonprofits Lawsuit, where nonprofits sued over frozen funds meant for humanitarian work. Well, by now, there is no conclusion in this case, and yes, Sherry is fighting the criminal charges against her in one court, and she is suing UConn in another court.
